BOC resides in the Mahoning Valley, in Northeast Ohio. Once a manufacturing hotbed and major player in the steel industry, this area has seen a dramatic shift in the past few decades away from technical, heavy industry jobs. Conversely , exporting and the increasing demand of global markets for American products has allowed many manufacturers to stay competitive, relevant, and profitable. We recently had the pleasure of hosting Dave Sess from the local CBS affiliate, WKBN 27 Youngstown, to discuss exporting and it’s importance to our company. Dave spent a large part of an afternoon with BOC President and Owner Todd Olson to learn more about BOC and what role exporting takes in our day-to-day processes.
As you will see in the video and article, Todd mentions how currency valuation, as well as global monetary policies, have a direct impact on manufacturers, not only in the Mahoning Valley, but the United States as a whole. On a daily basis the BOC team proudly manufactures some of the world’s most reliable heavy industry equipment and remains one of the most valuable suppliers in a competitive global market space. We look forward to more global opportunities as we finish out a very successful 2016 calendar year, gearing up for 2017!

Building on our water hydraulics successes in the steel & aluminum and the gas & oil industries, we have proven results in the hydro power industry. Working with customers like the US Army Corps of Engineers, we have been a reliable partner for water hydraulics needs. Past projects like the USACE Dredge MURDEN and the Fall Creek Reservoir have given BOC the experience necessary for any water hydraulic based application.
This is why we recently displayed at the HydroVision Expo in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As we continue to grow the hydro power segment of our business, we want those heavily involved in the industry to know how powerful water hydraulics can be, and how their application could benefit from our proven technologies.
Our team spent the three days of the expo meeting with domestic and international companies and were able to spread the word about BOC and water hydraulics. We look forward to growing the relationships made during the show and serving their needs as their projects evolve.
BOC has established ourselves as the global industry leader in water hydraulics, but we also have extensive knowledge and success with oil based hydraulic valves. BOC can lend support to your existing systems through parts availability, full repairs, site service, or most conveniently, total replacements for your operations. Whatever your requirements may be, our Engineering Team will design and our state-of-the art manufacturing facility will produce to meet your needs — and we do not stop there. We offer warranties to all our products and are always standing by to provide you technical assistance and field service support.
Bottomline, our products are the safest and most reliable in the marketplace. Our products will simplify your maintenance plan, significantly reduce your downtime, and simplify your spares strategy, while providing support for products that cannot be found elsewhere.
In 2004, we were approached by British Petroleum to supply them with a long lasting, serviceable, and reliable control valve package that could withstand the long term adversity of decoking applications. Building upon our successful track record of supplying descaling valves to the steel industry, BOC introduced our innovative, high pressure water cartridge valve to the refining industry and thus the DV Series valve was born. Today our DV Series Decoking Valve has established itself as the top-of-the-line, most reliable, dependable, friendliest to the pump operations, easiest to spare and service valve in the marketplace.
Each BOC valve is on-site engineered to meet your specific application and pumping requirements. Our unique capabilities enable us to minimize the stress on your pump caused by frequent loading and unloading during a cut cycle. BOC valves allow for more reliable operation of auto shift cutting heads. And we go the extra mile to ensure that our valves “bolt up” to your existing field piping envelopes. Rarely are piping changes required when installing a BOC Decoking Valve. Whatever your requirements may be, our Engineering Team will design and our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility will produce a DV series valve to meet your needs.
If you are at the Decoking Exhibition in Galveston, TX, please stop by our booth. Our Vice President of Field Service, Mr. Bob Guy, will be there and will be glad to answer any questions you have. http://refiningcommunity.com/refcomm-galveston-2016/
Vint Bossert, BOC consultant and retired USACE Engineer, attended the 2016 Green Boats and Ports for Blue Waters III Workshop in Narragansett, Rhode Island from April 4th-6th.
University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS), the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography are continuing the discussion from previous Green Boat workshops held in 2012 and 2014. Green Boats and Ports for Blue Waters III is a two day national workshop to facilitate communication between academia, governmental agencies, and private industry about the current environmental sustainability of ships, boats and ports and develop recommendations for sustainable operation of existing and future ships, ports and other marine facilities.
In 2015, I sent a personal letter to 4 steel industry CEO’s letting them know that BOC, as one of their major suppliers, is in their corner and committed to pushing this issue as a national conversation topic with our elected officials. Over the last six months, we have engaged in conversations with Lt Governor Taylor’s office (OH), Senator Portman’s (OH) economic lead in Washington DC, Congressman Bill Johnson (OH-6th District), and both US Steel and AK Steel’s Federal Government Affairs liaisons. In October of 2015, it was an honor for BOC to host Senator and Presidential candidate Marco Rubio. Senator Rubio addressed a capacity crowd in BOC’s lower assembly bay on his environmental policy for the United States. I was able to spend some 1 on 1 time with him and he was genuinely engaged and understood our concerns. Additionally, Congressman Bill Johnson visited BOC in November 2015 and he, too, was very concerned about the economy and especially the manufacturing sector.
China’s overcapacity of steel is and will continue to adversely affect small business in Ohio and nationally. This global issue that continues to go unchecked, is silently degrading the manufacturing readiness and technical ability of our country. We echo what Mario Longhi from US Steel has been saying for months that the playing field is definitely not a level one and BOC will continue our efforts in this upcoming presidential election year to make this part of the national conversation.
